A Week of Contrasts...

On Thursday evening, it was so beautiful and the temperature was so moderate that I grilled and we ate on the deck. It was wonderful as you can see...

During the night, Thursday, it started raining...and raining...and raining... These pictures are from Friday mid-afternoon, less than 24 hour later.

This is what it normally looks like...notice the pole for the Martin house. Our "pond" was up to the base of that pole, which is half way to our fence/back yard.

Here is a view from the deck toward the little "spillway" from our pond to the one that spills into the city drainage system. Note where Matt and Elizabeth are fishing and the location of the small tree by the spillway.

This next one is a cool picture Maryanne took of a Blue Heron that was watching the water flow over...I think he was fishing...but you can really see where he was standing from this picture form the 4th.
Well, the rain stopped Saturday morning and we had received a record total of 12 inches in 24 hours. But by Saturday evening the sky had cleared and by the time we went to bed, the wind had picked up and the temps began to drop. So here it is on Sunday afternoon and the wind is still blowing about 15 mph, the sky is a sunny bright blue with just a few clouds, the temperature is 64 degrees and I have my sweat shirt and jeans on to go out and mow the lawn!

You've just gotta' love the weather in the mid-west!

I think it is going to take a long time for all that water to dry up so we can mow.
