Last night Maryanne and I had two new friends over for dinner. Our guests were men from Nigeria that I had met through work who are now back in Wichita for training on the airplane I work.
The men and I had eaten lunch together last week, so I was careful to ask them if there was anything they preferred or didn't eat. I knew that there was a possibility that they could be Muslim. But the answer was a quick and friendly, no...there is nothing we won't eat.
With this information, Maryanne planned to take advantage of our beautiful weather with a spring grilled meal...a fresh green salad, creamed corn, fresh strawberries, iced tea, lemonade...and pork chops. As I was about to start the grill, Maryanne shared the menu with our guests and it quickly became obvious that pork was a surprise and not a pleasant one to at least one of our guests.
Being the resourceful hostess, Maryanne quickly thawed a steak and everything was back on track. Now being cautious, I asked how he liked beef cooked and the quick reply was, "well done!" So as Maryanne and I enjoyed grilled pork chops, our guests seemed to enjoy the first well done steak I have cooked on purpose in several years...
It turned out to be a very fun evening learning about Nigeria...sharing about our family...and sharing fellowship with two men who are also brothers in Christ.

I was fully intending on coming to your blog and leaving a comment about how you needed to get on the ball and put up a new post.
Oops. :-)
That's a funny story! Leave it to mom to have a steak ready to whip out. She's pretty amazing.
